Long haired children.

I have been riding my bike around town and taking a couple pictures here and there. I'm trying not to appear too much like a tourist, but everything around here is so picturesque. Like this canal. Ugh. Every canal.

Ma is coming to visit in about a month. I'm excited. We're heading to Paris for a bit and Zurich for a while. Zurich is about the same distance from Paris as Amsterdam is, so we might just go from Paris to Zurich. I would almost rather fly, but maybe we'll fly back from Zurich.

I want to go to Italy too, but that's too many trips in one visit. I still need to see the rest of the Netherlands too. Oi.

Thank god for streaming Seinfeld!

A couple of amusing items.

Well. It's midnight here in cold/rainy/blustery Amsterdam and I have been working on my computer for Niko for hoursss and my eyes are about to peel off if I make another clipping mask and/or inDesign document. So instead I'm going to share with you some fun things I found:

Article A:

Really beautiful. Forgot who it's by.

Article B:

True. And also forgot who it's by.

Article C:

Straight up my dream bathtub.

Article D:

Justin aka Bon Iver aka Let'sgetmarried.

Article E:

Covering Bush St in good ol' SF with an Obama sticker. That's pretty alright, I think.

Article F:
www.25thestate.com <--- Watch that it's really precious.

I just want to see you underwater.

Right behind Anneke + Niko's huis in Alkmaar.
Muiderpoort Station, waiting for the train.
Anneke + Niko!

I think I'm fully recovered from jet lag. It wasn't too bad. I slept about 15 hours the first night I was here, I was so tuckered out. I went to Alkmaar on Wednesday (Woensdag, I'm trying to learn dutch...) to visit Niko + Anneke. I forgot how amazing they are. Anneke took really great care of me, she made a really fantastic dinner for me. And coffee and tea all the time. She is taking me to an Oilily fashion show  next Friday (Vrijdag) and Niko is taking me to a new materials expo in February in Rotterdam!

They finished turning watertower into their office for Noordweztsen, which is Niko's architecture firm (www.noordwestzes.nl, if you're interested). Last time I was in Alkmaar they has barely started on it, it's so spectacular now! I don't have any pictures but I will before too long.

Also, I will have pictures of  their incredible huis. It just got marked as a historical land mark by the city + country. Same with the water tower.

I'm heading back up to Alkmaar today in about an hour to meet with Niko + his company to discuss plans for me working with them.

I still can't believe I'm here.
Yikes.

I made it! The flight over was a nightmare. Virgin Atlantic is precious, but they were delayed which made me miss my connecting flight from Heathrow to Schiphol airport. Which shouldn't have been a big deal to throw me on another flight, but since I was flying British Airways, and they don't honor delays on other airlines I had to pay 108 pounds (about 150USD) for another ticket. So stoopid.

Pictures tomorrow. I'm so tired.

Amsterdam 2009

Almost finished making arrangements for Amsterdam. It turns out I will be working with my favorite Dutchie, Niko, over in Alkmaar (which is about 20 miles north of Amsterdam). He is a big architect over there and is going to teach me all he knows, and hook me up with a great art-related job/internship. Which, goes without saying, will be super great experience for me. He sent me his company website and I found his portrait:

Also, I found out I can bring my bicycle on Virgin Atlantic for free! Amazingly awesome.

Judith Seng's work:

What a dream pair!
I'm gonna have to build these two for myself when I take furniture two.
